Glasgow
Glasgow is home to an exceptional mix of Georgian and Victorian homes, traditional tenements and historic properties, many retaining original windows that contribute to the character of their interiors.
Take a closer look at our beautiful Victorian tenement flat project, where the priority was to reduce external noise while improving comfort without compromising the character of the original windows.

The challenge
Our customer was concerned about the level of external noise entering his home, particularly around the bedrooms. Having considered a number of window solutions, he was unsure whether secondary glazing would deliver the level of acoustic improvement he was looking for.
The cost of the installation was also an important consideration. He wanted to be confident that the system would deliver the results he needed before making the investment.
At the same time, any solution needed to work sympathetically with the original windows and the character of this beautiful property.
Our solution
At the time of the project, Cocoon was undertaking independent acoustic testing of InvisiTherm® and offered the property as a test location.
This provided an opportunity to measure the existing windows before installation and then assess the performance of the InvisiTherm® system once fitted.
To give our customer complete confidence in the results, we also offered the installation on a two-month trial basis, allowing him to experience the difference in his own home before deciding whether to keep the system.
The installation was designed around the existing sash windows, providing an additional layer of glazing without replacing or altering the original windows.

Independent acoustic testing
The results provided clear evidence of the improvement achieved.
Independent acoustic measurements recorded a 12 dB improvement in the bedroom following installation of InvisiTherm®.
When considering the low-frequency Ctr weighting, which places greater emphasis on lower-frequency sounds such as urban road traffic, the bedroom recorded a 9 dB improvement.
The testing concluded that the InvisiTherm® outside-frame configuration provided the best tested acoustic performance for this property and was the acoustically recommended product for the site.
The difference
The results gave our customer the reassurance he was looking for — and the opportunity to experience the difference for himself.
After two months, he was delighted with the performance of the system and chose to keep the installation.
The independent testing also provided valuable evidence of how InvisiTherm® could improve acoustic performance in a real residential setting, rather than relying solely on acoustic testing figures. Contact our team to discuss your specific needs.
