Dundee

Dundee is home to a diverse mix of historic, residential and commercial buildings, each with its own character and challenges. Over the years, we have designed and installed bespoke secondary glazing across a wide range of properties throughout the city and surrounding area.

Take a closer look at our work on an A listed heritage theatre, where carefully designed secondary glazing helped improve comfort while respecting the building’s distinctive character, original features and architectural significance.

Dundee Rep and Scottish Dance Theatre - Dance studios, Rehearsal Rooms, Offices and dressing rooms

Dundee Rep is a Category A-listed post-war theatre in the heart of Dundee. The purpose-built venue features a range of unusually shaped, high-level windows that contribute to its distinctive architectural design.

The challenges

This A-list heritage theatre presented an exceptional range of technical and architectural challenges. Every window opening required bespoke surveying and an individually designed secondary glazing solution, with no two areas presenting the same requirements.

From unusually shaped and high-level windows to exceptionally large and narrow glazed panels, the project demanded careful planning throughout the dance studios, rehearsal rooms, offices and dressing rooms. Working within a busy operational theatre, our team also had to accommodate restricted access, fixed ballet bars, structural steelwork and a variety of original timber finishes, while preserving the building's historic character.

Our solution

A fully bespoke InvisiTherm® secondary glazing solution was developed for each individual window opening. Every system was carefully measured, colour matched and designed to work around the theatre's varied window shapes, structural steelwork and original architectural features. Installation was carefully phased to minimise disruption to the theatre's day-to-day operation.

The difference

The theatre now benefits from improved warmth, reduced external noise and enhanced comfort throughout a wide variety of spaces, including rehearsal rooms, studios, offices and public areas. Most importantly, these improvements have been achieved while preserving the character and architectural significance of this exceptional A-listed building, with discreet InvisiTherm® systems that integrate seamlessly with the existing windows.
