Historic Georgian crescent facade in Edinburgh with traditional sash windows UK

Edinburgh

Edinburgh is home to a remarkable mix of traditional townhouses, listed buildings and historic properties, many with original sash windows and architectural features that contribute to their character.

Take a closer look at one of our Edinburgh townhouse projects below, where InvisiTherm® was designed to improve comfort while working alongside the property's existing shutters.

The challenge

Having moved into her gorgeous Edinburgh townhouse, Anna found the property draughty and difficult to heat. With her first child due in just a few months, creating a warm and comfortable home — particularly a stable temperature in the nursery — became a priority.

A key consideration was the property's existing shutters. Anna needed a system that could improve comfort while maintaining the use of her shutters.

Our solution

InvisiTherm® was chosen for its ability to work alongside the property's existing shutters while providing a discreet, bespoke secondary glazing solution.

Each system was individually designed around the original windows and the requirements of the room, helping to improve thermal comfort without altering the character of the townhouse.

For Anna, the priority was the nursery — creating a more stable and comfortable environment for her growing family.

The difference

Since installing InvisiTherm®, Anna has noticed a range of benefits throughout the home.

The nursery has become warmer and more comfortable, with a reduction in condensation and less external noise from the road. The improved warmth has also helped reduce energy use.

“I was worried about maintaining a stable temperature. But it is definitely a degree or two warmer even without heating.”

— Anna, Edinburgh

Respecting the original windows

For a traditional Edinburgh townhouse, preserving the character of the original windows was just as important as improving comfort.

InvisiTherm® provides a sympathetic secondary glazing solution that works with the existing architecture, allowing Anna to retain the features that make her home special while making it. Contact us today to discuss your requirements.

A word from Anna

“Everyone is so accommodating. The installers are lovely and polite, and my secondary glazing was fitted so quickly. There was loads of communication as well. Everything about my experience has been excellent.”
